Picking up other signals through a baby monitor?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009 | Other - Electronics | 3 Comments

Aaron asked:

How far of a signal do baby monitors generally have? We just turned off the main end of the baby monitor, and we forgot to turn off the receiving end (the listening end) and we started picking up a signal of a family having a conversation. I didn’t think the monitors had that great of a signal? And even so, what is the likelihood of it picking up a signal from something else? (Some other electronic device)

About how old should the baby be before she can sleep in her own room?

Stacy asked:

I have a six week old babygurl. Just wondering around what age other parents started putting their baby in there own room to sleep by themselves? My fiance’ tells me we should let her sleep in her own room, but I feel unsecure about it. It right beside our room and we have a baby monitor, but every time I have put her in there I seem to get up and check on her every 5 minutes. I end up rolling her basinet in our room by the bed by morning. Can I please get others opinions on this.

Would you leave your baby in a hotel room alone sleeping while you hang out in the hotel bar and periodically?

twinmom asked:

go up and check on the baby? What about your own house … would you leave your baby sleeping in your house and go two houses down to hang out and hang out with another couple? If no, would you do it with a baby monitor?

Just wondering because I know people who do just this type of thing on a regular basis, and I think it’s asking for trouble. Even with a monitor, how would you protect your child if someone broke in, or if the house caught fire, or if your child had a medical emergency? The whole McCann thing is a huge example of this.

I’m interested in other people’s opinions.
